Tork Tech has not forgotten about all the centrifugal supercharger and turbocharged enthusiasts out there. We have a few tricks up our sleeve for these applications also. If we can't convince you to purchase one of our own positive displacement kits, or you already have another type blower kit, we still have a few great items for you too. The item shown here is our Intercooled manifold kit for use with nearly any make centrifugal type supercharger or turbo setup.
Most other manufacturers blower kits do have one advantage. They use the stock plastic lower manifold and retain the stock location for the throttle body and the upper plenum. This makes installation rather easy. Now for the bad news that I can guarantee they won't tell you. Ford designed the plastic manifolds to work great under vacuum, not under BOOST PRESSURE! Even at moderate boost pressures the plastic manifolds can crack or burst. If you are lucky the engine just quits. If you are unlucky a piece of the plastic manifold may be ingested causing internal engine damage.
This Tork Tech kit utilized a strong cast aluminum lower manifold that will not crack or burst under boost and has a super efficient integral intercooler. The manifold locates your stock or aftermarket upper plenum and throttle body exactly where the plastic manifold does so nothing needs to be changed as far as the rest of your current setup is concerned. The beautiful thing about using the Tork Tech lower manifold compared to several other aftermarket aluminum ones is that ours is the ONLY one that houses an intercooler so your current kit can safely run more boost and achieve previously unachievable inlet air charge temperatures. A common rule of thumb is for every 10 degree decrease in air charge temperature you will see a 1% increase in engine power. Efficient intercooling can easily drop charge temperatures by 150 to 200 degrees for a 15 to 20% increase in power.
Most turbo kits will likely use an air to air intercooler but this involves plumbing large diameter tubing all about the engine bay to the front mounted heat exchanger. Centrifugal superchargers are often times non intercooled, limiting their power and increasing the opportunity for detonation. When an intercooler is used in a centrifugal application it is typically very small, due to space limitations, and often notoriously inefficient. For instance, the commonly used "aftercoolers" are documented to cause a 4 psi drop in boost pressures.
This Tork Tech intercooled manifold kit will require some degree of customization to work on different applications. We provide the intercooled manifold with our top plate to precisely locate your upper plenum, a new thermostat housing, and a alternator relocation kit (turns it backwards, but moves body forward for clearance). Since this manifold kit is designed to be a universal fit you will be responsible for plumbing your engine coolant to the new thermostat housing and also finishing off your intercooler system with a heat exchanger, fluid pump and necessary hoses and hardware to attach it all together.
We do offer our own heat exchanger, fluid pump, hoses and hardware as a separate item. This "Heat Exchanger Kit" can be used to complete your intercooler system. You will still be responsible for plumbing your engine coolant hoses
